Of The Jungle Dancers Poem by Tolu Akinwole

Of The Jungle Dancers

See them caught in the throb of the drum,
Jumping and flying, exposing their heads
To the mocking eyes of the sun

The petrifying sound of the drum
Wakes in them no spirit.
Blind, they dance round the maze in the jungle.

Who knows the riddle of the coconut?
Let him save them from the hypnotising rhythm of the drum.
He who has the hands of the spirits
Can slap the drum shut.

Let him who has eyes divine
Peer into the future
And talk the talk of the future
While this dance lasts in the jungle.
