Off To Scotland Poem by Randy McClave

Off To Scotland

I wanted to take her to another part of the world
I wanted to take her to Edinburgh,
Take her to where my family had originally come from
Take her to the country of kilts and the bagpipes and the drum.
I wanted to take her across the seas
To where the heather and the thistle bows with the breeze,
Where the unicorn still reigns majestically and tall
On the flag, and also on the castle wall.

I wanted to walk with her on the street
To where old town and new town does meet,
And I wanted her to hear the bagpipes playing
And then listen to every Scottish/ Gaelic saying.
Of course I wanted to see her wearing a tartan skirt
Of course matching my tartan shirt,
And then her and I of course would then go out to dine
A plate of haggis, neeps and tatties with scotch and not wine.

I wanted to take her to beautiful Scotland
By it's wonder and beauty I wanted her stunned,
I wanted to take her to Arthur's seat and to the castle
And then her to view upon the tons of tassel.
I wanted to take her to Roslin chapel and also to Loch Ness
So, unto her I could proudly show off and also impress,
But, then when that destination of my choice I did poise
She instead packed up her bags and went to Illinois.
