Oh Jericho Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

Oh Jericho

Oh Jericho, once mighty and grand,
Your towering walls now lay in sand.
Your gates, once strong, now crumble and fall,
Silent witnesses to your downfall.
The echoes of your bustling streets,
Now replaced with a deafening beat,
Of war and destruction, death and pain,
Broken souls, forever stained.
Oh Jericho, your name rings in sorrow,
A city once filled with hope for tomorrow.
But now, your people mourn and weep,
As their city is laid to eternal sleep.
The trumpets that once announced your fame,
Now sound a dirge, a mournful refrain.
For you, oh Jericho, are no more,
Your fate sealed, in ancient lore.
Oh how the mighty have fallen,
In the hands of destiny, so cruel and barren.
But in our hearts, you will forever shine,
Oh Jericho, a memory divine.
Your memory will live on in our minds,
As we mourn for the city left behind.
An elegy, we sing for you,
Oh Jericho, a city once true.
Farewell, oh Jericho, our hearts break,
For the loss of a city, so grand and great.
But in our hearts, your legacy will reign,
Oh Jericho, a city forever in pain.
