Oh Lord, Be My Light Poem by Neera Lollbeeharry

Oh Lord, Be My Light

There are many a time when I reap despair
I wrongly believe in the false love of Man,
There are many a time when I forget
And do odd things that I regret.
Oh Lord please be my light in this deep emptiness

There are many a time when I wrongly put
My trust in the goodness of man
And their continuous stabs my heart appall,
And my tears cannot help but fall.
Oh Lord please be my light in this dark dreariness

There are many a time when I come to a crossroad
And consciously take the wrong route
And my empty hands grope for guidance,
As I’m lost in this jungle immense,
Oh Lord please be my light in this heavy loneliness

There are many a time when my beloved ones
Let me down or push me away
And my heart gets shattered, unable to bear
And I wander to gather the bits they tear
Oh Lord please be my light amongst so much heartlessness

Today, more than ever, I need you Lord
For I know you’re the only one
You’re my only solace in this world of beasts
I know I can place trust in you at least
Oh Lord please be my light in this painful timelessness.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
They say that in moments of utter despair, when everything else falls apart, God is the only resort left. For me this poem was a kind of therapy.
