Oh Mr. Sun Poem by Dalyn Cornell

Oh Mr. Sun

Oh Mr. Sun perched kingly in the sky
Do you see what we’ve become? Does it make you want to cry?
I wish you had something beautiful to look down upon
Instead of this web of lies and hatred that we seem to thrive on
You watch with sad eyes as we kill our neighbors and brothers
Shaking your head as we scorn our teachers and mothers
We kill people who kill people to show that killing people is wrong
Our times of peace are few and our wars are years long
Tears stain cheeks and blood stains feet
Time again we scramble up to be knocked back to our knees
Sorrow touches children, Death whispers all around
Instead of becoming better, we keep on falling down
We live for ourselves and we let the weak die
Dreams are few and far between and always left behind
We have to be in control of everything and all
God forbid aliens live because then we might fall
You fly the skies everyday and see the horrors we are
We are not worthy of your beauty in this world that we mar
Fear prowls through the streets and pain creeps up the walls
The smog we create all and every day blocks out the stars
You hang above our heads like a big round golden eye
Watching us fail so miserably, watching us with a sigh
No, we are not worthy of your beauty in all the ruin we create
It’s like we’ve forgotten love exists and all there is is hate.
