My sweet Lanka, island paradise
Pearl of the Indian ocean.
I was on holiday, in thy arms.
My hopes and dreams, shattered.
Wasn't it yesterday, we had celebrations?
X'mas celebrated with kith and kin.
The night lit up with coloured sparks
And yet, the dawn broke with a vengeance.
Oh! Tsunami, you were a monster
Sweeping away our people and children,
Collecting them to thy bosom
Shattering all my dreams.
Why? , Oh! , Why? , Tsunami
Did thou batter my motherland?
The land of our proud ancestors
Protected for thousands of years.
Even thro' this calamity, we will unite
To build a golden future for our people,
And for our children, our national treasure
Our unity, our strength, to the fore.
