Oh, Yeah, I Remember The Rain! Poem by Denis Martindale

Oh, Yeah, I Remember The Rain!

There I was, on the petrol forecourt,
And I had to leave the shop to serve a customer.
The Mini waited by the petrol pump and
Oh, yeah, I remember the rain.
It was a furious flood of rain that greeted me.
I pressed forward to hear the driver say, 'Fill it up! '
So there I was, standing alone in the storm.
I waited for the tank to fill, as I stood still,
Right there, next to the petrol pump.
A minute passed, and then I looked up at the car.
I saw the four guys inside who were laughing,
Yes, they were laughing at me and at my predicament.
I finished what I had to do and went to get the money.
I didn't expect a tip and I sure didn't get one.
What I did get was a morbid, melancholy memory,
A memory that will stay with me,
For all the wrong reasons,
Come rain or shine…
