Old Movies Poem by Jon Yttri

Old Movies

I remember in my youth
I wasted time, to tell the truth.
There's one addiction which I had
I never broke, for good or bad.
When school-free, inside home door
I"d watch the films from times of yore.
From decades three, now seven or eight,
They made me long for yesterdate.
Some were of the funny kind,
With no canned laughs, but didn't mind.
Some had men who'd saddle horse
Who'd wear big curved-brim hats, of course
Some had men who'd search for clues
In dark world of smoke and blues.
A few had folks who'd dance onstage.
Some had foreign espionage.
Some had creatures who'd haunt and spook.
Others had nobles like king, queen, duke.
In retrospect, I now surmise
Time could have been spent far more wise.
But at least it could be said
It's better than if I were dead.
