On A Photo Of John O Connor Poem by Francis Duggan

On A Photo Of John O Connor

From his photograph he has been ageing well though his better days by now long gone
Some people age better than others they just seem to keep keeping on
He now is well into his fifties the clock on his life ticking fast
A photo of someone you once knew does bring back memories of the past.

I wonder did he father children and i wonder does he have a wife
Or is he as carefree as ever and happy in his single life?
An internet image of Coolikerane's John O Connor taken by Michelle O Keeffe on March horse fair day
Standing in the Town Square in Millstreet a blast from the past one might say.

One of the Coolikerane O Connors in Millstreet quite a well known clan
I did know him and his brothers and cousins when I was a much younger man
I used to hang around with his mob going back some two decades ago
And nothing to stir up old memories like a face from the past you do know.

I knew him when he was a young lad and he was a strong man in his prime
And the years not been taking toll on him though sooner or later we all become victims of time
In two decades he has not changed that much he still has his long foxy hair
But i bet that he did have a few drinks for to celebrate the March Horse Fair.
