On Days Like This Poem by Sara Militello

On Days Like This

On Days Like This

When day is done and night winds show
wafting softly over rustling branches blow
I call up our youthful times of love.
They still sparkle like the nearest star above:

Whispers of light breezes through summer trees
become a hymn to our love sung many times before
its tune in rhythm with summer breezes everywhere
As days like this become their own halcyon lore.

On days like this I'm reminded of our song,
each bend in theroad recalls the startling impact
of that first kiss just round the bend coming on strong;
of fireflies and berries and dark tans~

Ice cream cones, thongs and colorful sarongs
blazing colors and hues and much-kissed lips~
memories that never lose their grip on sunlit days
and fruity beverages taken in tiny sips.

Sunrise, sunset, moonlit nights and cloudless days.
I never tire of what they have to say!
Memories are always there to remind us
of our youthful innocence, of days and nights ~
And...us.
