On Loan Poem by Claude H Oliver II

On Loan

As I travel on life's journey
Seeing much along the way
Arriving at depots of understanding
One understanding comes to the fore
Nothing I think I own belongs to me
Clothes or house
Food or drink
Money or property
Mother or father
Family or friends
Loves or hates
Everything is only on loan to me
This after years of wandering
Captive of ignorance
Lost in misunderstanding
Ownership - an illusion
Faculties
Sight, hearing
Smell, touch, taste
Diminish and leave
Memories once sharp fade
Yet this loan gives much freely
Joys, sorrows, lessons
Life - mine for a time
Living the only cost
A generous gift of the universe.
