On Our Earthly Life Poem by Dr John Celes

On Our Earthly Life

Like a sail-less ship, we try to cross life’s sea!
From birth, we sin and tend to sin all life;
No man is pure or perfect in God’s eyes;
Our faith in Jesus saves us from sure hell!

Our hearts like knives all blunt, need sharpening;
Our faith in Christ needs depth and widening;
Our love of God needs to be strengthening;
Our human strength per se in weakening!

Just Jesus raises us whenev’r we fall;
Our hearts are filled with evil desires all;
Our minds and ears recognize not God’s call;
Our knowledge fount is bitter, tastes like gall!

We tend to do evil though thoughts are good;
We eat rubbish thinking it is good food;
We aim for being better than we could;
We sin so often, wear a mask and hood!

Through Jesus came the Good Shepherd for all;
Before Him, men were shepherdless, a flock;
The law wants us to love God by whole heart;
And yet, we fail to love our neighbours oft!
