On The Arrest Of Milosevic (2001) Poem by Francis Duggan

On The Arrest Of Milosevic (2001)

'The butcher of the Balkans' is behind bars in jail
Awaiting trial in Belgrade he won't be out on bail
For fraud and for corruption against the Serbian state
But his crimes against humanity than that seem far more great.

His crimes against the Bosnians and Kosovars will live in memory
As perhaps the darkest period in Serbian history
But it won't be for his crimes against humanity he will be serving time
But for theft from the state coffers by far a lesser crime.

Slobodan Milosevic now stripped of all his power
And it cannot be said of him that he had his glorious hour
His crimes against humanity his monument of shame
And amongst the World's worst criminals you'll find the tyrants name.

Of the sins of Milosevic the World already know
The dispossessions, rapes and killings of the innocents of Kosovo
By the ruthless Serbian soldiers then under his control
The 'Butcher of the Balkans' is one without a soul.

Milosevic in prison where he deserves to be
Though he will not be on trial for his crimes against humanity
But on the lesser charges of fraud against the Serbian State
And sad to think his innocent victims met with a far worse fate.
