A tiny blur, a flash of light,
They dance and dart, a wondrous sight.
Wings a-blur, a thousand beats,
Against the air, their life entreats.
They drink the sweet, a sugary stream,
To fuel a life, a vibrant dream.
No time to rest, no time to pause,
Against the world, they break its laws.
A flip, a turn, they fly with grace,
Backwards and up, in any place.
Their hearts beat fast, a frantic drum,
Until the night, when stillness come.
They sleep so deep, a frozen state,
To live again, defying fate.
They know the flowers, every one,
A map inside, till day is done.
A tiny friend, a hopeful sign,
Of healing found, and spirits divine.
A loved one near, a gentle hum,
When hummingbirds to us do come.
