On The Eve Of December 2013 Poem by Ndimancho T Nyowikeh

On The Eve Of December 2013

The village buzzing with it's activities,
From Nkor to Lassin on the market day.
Striving for new garments and shoes,
Saloons massed by girls seeking transformation.
Taverns transformed into full amour of doozy,
A sudden increase in the price of goods
Takes the lead in the marketplace.

The euphoria is equally soothing,
As one can hear mixture of;
Afro, pop, and Makossa music
Replenishing the air with its canticle.
Children sing and dance in elation.
Those in exile begin to return home.
Nkor Motto Park, brimful with returnees.

In another scene,
Mama busily turning pots in the kitchen,
Papa busily setting drinks in the parlour.
Thousands in stunning outfits up and down.
To the Taverns, they go to drink & hop in glee.
While in my closet, clink to the cheer of my bed.

As I lay awake,
Then came the inviting melodies,
From Titanik Snack Bar to Choppers Club.
My weak flesh joins and accepts its invitation
But my heart concealed me behind.
