River Kinkole Poem by Ndimancho T Nyowikeh

River Kinkole

As I promenade through river Kinkole,
From _Koochi_ en route to _Kifiang_;
Lonely and desolate, gloaming into the night.
I could not tell what time of the night was it.
But all I could compile was that;
The heavenly veil had wrapped the earth,
From head to toe.

As I did embark on this perilous journey,
An incendiary, I had none, But,
A bygone gas lighter that had no hopes of life.

So, I was left to the heavenly torch,
I will trek a step, halt for the sky to blink.
So I can find a way,
As I lay on the _kinkole_ bridge,
Behold! I began to hear unmusical sounds;
Frogs, snakes, cats, and owls, etc...
Busily signing in bliss.

This Hymn erases my elation dispatching dread.
Then came a horrendous creature in white,
Tall as the Bamboo from the _Nsai Bush._
It stood on my path, blocking my passage.
My hair stood tentatively!
My eyes looked, but could not see!
My legs, clink to the soil!
My entire body trembling!
Was it a fantasy?
How I wished it was a dream.

Thereupon,
My path became clear, again.
And I left my fears on the bridge,
And embraced the prowess of _Bia_.
And wore the legs of a hunting dog,
And searched for my hut.
Promising never to transit _kinkole._
