On The Pathway By The Sea Poem by Francis Duggan

On The Pathway By The Sea

A nice evening to take a stroll on the pathway by the sea
For to work up an appetite before the evening tea
A silver billed magpie is warbling on a sunlit wattle tree
And in the park the magpie larks are calling out pee wee

The dark welcome swallows above the park are chirping as they fly
They hunt for flying insects all day long across the southern sky
In all sorts of weather they are flying windy, cold, wet, sunny and dry
In their mud nest they have young to feed under house eaves nearby

A scene that is unchanged by time and will be forever more
The silver gulls are mewing above the sandy shore
Humans grow old and slowly fade as time becomes their foe
But the thread of life it does go on as Seasons come and go

Late Winter in this southern place on a cool and breezy August day
The sun in it has little warmth in a sky that's blue and gray
September brings the calendar Spring in time not far away
And memories of such a pleasant evening a lifetime bound to stay

In a scene to be repeated in time forever more
The white ocean waves are splashing on the sunlit sandy shore
A nice enough evening for a stroll on the pathway by the sea
For to work up an appetite before the evening tea.
