On Waking Poem by Gary Witt

On Waking

Rating: 5.0

From behind me
The sun will soon arrive,
And I vow this day
Shall not begin without me.
Knowing I am blind,
I shall begin to look;
Seeing I do not know,
I wonder if I may learn.
Running from myself,
I need not give chase.

If there is joy to be mined
From the sediment of yesterday,
Let me sift through that silt
Quickly and move on;

Worrying not over the direction of change;
Merely applauding its presence.
