On Yom Yerushalayim 5780 Poem by Shalom Freedman

On Yom Yerushalayim 5780

On Yom Yerushalayim
Forty-six years after I came
In the year of the coronavirus
After a week of unbearable heat
We sang Hallel
With diminished tired voices -
Yet in my soul
The gratitude for my years here
And the sudden uplift at Hodu
In appreciative realization
For all those who gave and give so much
To the ongoing miracle of the life of the Jewish people
In the heart of the land of Israel.
