Once Illusions Held Me Fast Poem by Mohammad Younus

Once Illusions Held Me Fast

Once, illusions held me fast,
their hands, firm like chinar roots,
whispers of a beloved,
binding me to the soil of delusion.
I grew beneath their dark shade,
heavy with bitter words,
sharp, coiled in thorns
that scraped like shards of glass.

Shadows grew, haunting like ghosts,
pushing my eyes away from truth—
until divine intelligence opened within me.
I longed to cast off the embrace of illusions,
their grip suffocating,
a shroud I wore unwittingly,
heavy with the stench of falsehood.

Yet, within this despair, light broke through.
Now, the sun of enlightenment frees me,
its light my guiding flame.
My True Self consoles me,
weaving sacred stories into lullabies,
speaking in a tongue familiar,
as God spoke on the day of Alast.

No longer do I wrestle my false self;
I hear whispers echo through me:
'Come, stay,
feel my love once more.'

And so I rise, unbound, reborn,
bathed in the glow of eternal morn.
Illusions fade; I stand anew,
a faith of light, a soul made true.
