Every once in awhile you still cross my mind
& I still find myself smiling at what used to be
& I think of what the future would have been
& I smile harder

Every once in awhile I reminisce on how things went sour
& I remember how cold your heart got
& I wondered why you would act this way toward me
& then I'd cry

Every once in awhile I try to forget your memory
& I think about how much happier I could be without you
& I think about how much I want to be with you
& I'd cry harder

Every once in awhile I come back to reality
& I realize you're gone
I realize that I'm the one that told you leave
& I realize that I'm smiling even harder because of that
