Once Upon A Dream Poem by JAMES T. ADAIR

Once Upon A Dream

Once upon a dream
things were better
than they now seem
Love was a possibility
no, I was mistaken...
a friend I found instead

though inside
my heart was break'in
To see her love another is bittersweet
still I'm glad we did meet
and I wish her love
and happiness and joy

even though I'll miss her so
a memory of her now wherever I go
because her kindness was not a ploy
and was a gift to a man, still inside; a boy
who for a moment paused upon her beauty

Touched softly by her distant soul
that somehow made him feel more whole
and dream about a distant shore
that he will wish upon no more
because the dream it was too far a reach
...to that far away beach

where as it turns she found love anyway
just as another felt it ripped away
but always unspoken care to you I'll send
my heartfelt distant friend
regardless of whether I ever mend
this love I feel for you will never end

because once upon a time
you reminded me of someone dear to me
helped me to realize I still had a heart in me
Now the only bright spot I can see
is that he sounds somewhat like me
a painful twist of irony

If I was younger or more your age
and not such an older sage
I think this feeling of love I would follow
to replace this inner feeling so hollow
and rather than feel as empty as a drum
I'd keep my dream of me and you ever having fun
