One Day Poem by Richard Weissman

One Day

One day honors your birth,
One day transfixes my thought,
One day forever after reminds me of you.
One day is once again upon us,
When the Earth again completes promised revolution round Sun,
And our hemisphere again arcs from autumn towards winter,
And one day in late November those you've embraced thus far turn round in recognition of your inner light that never dims,
That light which taught me whispered speech of nature and wisdom in mountain, earth, river and sky.
As I struggle to articulate that inexhaustible beauty transcendent of time and form… which is your essence,
And remind myself of dim half-life that marked my days prior to intertwining midst your truth.
Though each 23rd of November I realize the turning is destined to somehow fall short,
And fail to encapsulate the kaleidoscopic celebration your birth long ago sparked,
Sparked through your unfailing commitment to generosity, truth, grace, love and compassion,
Still I remind myself that life was not so cruel as to limit my honoring and celebration to…
One Day.
