One Does Not Equal One Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

One Does Not Equal One

One does not equal one

Busy is the teacher in chalk-dust
-is walking left and right
-hardly is visible what he writes

Somebody sitting at final row
-chewing gum:
-"It is wrong! "

Turn to him all the eyes
-questioning:
-"What? " -"What? " -"What?

He answers with voice lost
-"one and one are never equal! "

Thunder shines in the eyes of teacher,
-students are eager
-"What? " -"What? " -"What?

He sits as he had been, carelessly:
-if one was equal to the one
-One would not be shoe-less and wounded
-One would not lose her life of hunger
-One would not die of thirst in desert
-One would not ride dingy to remain
-One would not order to build tall wall
-One would not fly in a jet, personal…"

The class turns war zone
-guns, bullets, burning tolls

He goes on:
-"…how can one be same one
-when devil rules White House,
-corrupt is Kremlin in Moscow
-when faithless claims faith
-kills others as pagans?

Teacher looks helplessly:
-"Delete that, write anew
-one never equals other one…! "
