One Door Closes Another One Opens Blues Poem by Lynn Kincade

One Door Closes Another One Opens Blues

Rating: 5.0

Opened my eyes this morning
On a day so fine
Hopped right up and jumped right up
To see what’s online
Casting out the feelers for
A job to hold me through
Checking out the job search sites
To find what I can do

Luck it seems is with me
Much I find that’s there
Is exactly what I have done
In businesses elsewhere

BUT

Thanks for the interest, but you see
Out of 700 applicants you’re not the one for me
Thanks for your application, but just to let you know
The position has been pulled, so there’s nowhere to go
Thank you for your application, but please do not reply
This automated message is to say goodbye

And it’s given me the open and shut blues

Opened my eyes this morning
And jumped up out of bed
Struggled into suit and tie
And shaved showered and fed
Have a meeting with an HR lass
And a phone call with another
A meeting with a recruiter lad
And probably his brother

Luck seems to be with me
They liked what I had to say
Promised me they would call
With feed back in a day

BUT

Thank you for the interview, but in looking once again
You are way over qualified, it is now so plain
Thank you for your time today, but the panel has agreed
To hire Joe Blogs, because we know him, yes indeed
Thank you for the coffee, but I have bad news to say
You were number two in line, have a nice day

And I’m left playing the open and shut blues

Opened my eyes this morning
And oozed out of bed
Had a coffee, read the paper
And listened to the birds instead
Of racing with the rats and mice
And stressing out the head
Kicked back and chilled out
And then went back to bed

BUT

Looked at my bank balance and wondered how I’d eat
Looked at my pockets and wondered how to shoe my feet
Looked at the papers with all their doom and gloom
Looked at the sunrise, and went back into my room

And am still a’singin’ those open and shut blues

Work with me. This is another winner. I am freelance and felt every line, every letter, every rejection as if I'd just nicked my finger peeling a lemon!

A light hearted look at a very serious subject. Over-qualification, lack of experience and (sadly) lack of youth seem to be the main obstacles to job-securing in this egocentric world. Love the way you've structured this piece. It is lively, rollicking and has a wry sting in its tail. Clever poem. Love, Allie ♥ ♥ ♥ ♥

I do like reading this. Done with a lot of humor. Why don't you put a tune to it and step right into the Blues business
