One More Hit Poem by Lacie Hebert

One More Hit

Just one more hit, that's all I'd say,
One more night before I walked away.
One more kiss, one final call,
One last chance to fix it all.

But one became a hundred tries,
A hundred chances, hundred lies.
A hundred mornings filled with dread,
And conversations left unsaid.

I chased the rush, ignored the cost,
Counted wins and missed the loss.
Held on tighter every day,
As more of me slipped away.

Funny how the heart can know
Exactly when it's time to go,
Yet still remain and still insist
The next embrace won't feel like this.

But addicts always learn too late,
That hope alone can't alter fate.
