One More Opportunity Poem by Kayla Surber

One More Opportunity

So many feelings in my one single being
Self-reflection only leads to self-fleeing
I can’t sort out my own thoughts
But in this day and time, it must be me to call all the shots
How much longer can I go?
How much longer until my true self shows?
My mind is like a double-edged sword
And within it, my agonizing contradictory I hoard.
This is nothing compared to others
As if compared to them I have errors.
But then again on a smaller scale
It’s important for me to unveil
Who I really am, and find myself along the way
I must remember though, that every day is a new day
Another chance to mend what I’ve broken
One more opportunity to rise above being soft-spoken
Another chance to give the proper goodbye.
One more opportunity to spread my wings and fly.
