One Of The Secrets Of Life Poem by Francis Duggan

One Of The Secrets Of Life

Of doom and gloom of late so much we have read
Yet who is to say for us what lay ahead
I for one feel happy for to welcome each Spring
For the great gift of life is a wonderful thing.

Let your last day be your hardest a wise one did say
Those words seem so true and i too feel that way
One of the secrets of life is to live for as long as you can
And I'd love for to live for to be an old man.

Yet time does not wait for us it ticks along
And time does take care of the weak and the strong
And though never an athlete it does seem to me
That I'm not the man that i once used to be.

No I'm not the man that i was years ago
And though in my prime years my fastest was slow
The passing of time has left me more than gray
I've never walked slower than I've walked today.

Though of doom and gloom we hear so much of late
Our great gift of life we ought to celebrate
One of the secrets of life is live for as long as you can
And I'd love to survive for to die an old man.
