Only Fools Never Doubt Poem by Jim Boone

Only Fools Never Doubt

“Welcome to Houston” 1967
‘Camelot’ the movie has opened
To mark this momentous time
So view a new life path
From your tower balcony
And then get down.

How do I handle ‘turning tricks’
In a far too convenient place and time
When all I want is some ONE
Who only wants me, somewhere
Between royalty, chivalry, simplicity,
Commonality and ‘falling IN love.’

If I could only choose, between
Every fine gent, young and almost
Beyond: It would be impossible
To know, from this queer view, so

Entr’acte: But for how long?
You-o-o only want my sex and go
Then if you return, how do I know?
Will an Arthur and this Jim
Ever be allowed to unite and grow?

So many questions; life, time after time
Nobody can be happy and a malcontent
The King is misspoken and the Prince
Is a blatant, confused whore
Why am I here (?) - wouldn’t be anywhere else.

So, what do we ‘simple folk do’? Our best
Then ‘God’s speed’ the rest
“Revenge is the most worthless of causes”
And only fools never doubt. Run, run, run! ! ! 1967 - 2011
