Open Eyes Poem by Shijo Jose

Open Eyes

Up above, in the sky so high
Thunder clouds come to hide the sun
Rain and hail pouring down like pearls
Together on a journey through a storm

Falling to the ground, one by one
Many notes danced on drums of earth
They sing a song, then curtains fall
The music ends and the clouds leave

Still lingers fiesta in nature's heart
Every leaf is freshened into green
Renewed energy in flow of every stream
But inside we remain with gloomy faces

Outside we step, eyes scanning for mud
Too busy to spot the painted art
Blind to life filled with its fervor
Cursing to a storm ruining the day

Away from the ground, we look aloft
The height of ambitions guiding our sight
Rainbow of colors fills up the sky
A single strip that unites seven hues

But ignorant to to things held in hand
We never notice simpler things in life
Or the wide canvas we stand on
Tall ambitions guiding an unfor giving greed

Pause for a moment to look around
Observe million colors on a single tree
Count shades of color on butterflies
Try to make life simpler for once
