Opened Paths Poem by Justin Baird

Opened Paths

We are free in the best of all possible worlds
To choose the way that our story unfolds
Do we speak as a voice of reason against the howling mob?
Or do we give in to the wicked and have our future robbed?

Do we confront the weeds of malice and wring them from their roots?
Or do we bite upon the apple and taste forbidden fruit?

For each of us a choice upon a path that we must walk
Like explorers of the sea of the soul
Like a candle in the dark

Do not sacrifice your free-will
Or be be chained to deterministic thoughts
For man you see is born set free
And with choice he breaks his locks
