Orange Poem by R.Benjamin Abate

Orange

I'm an Orange
& they’re
peeling away
my skin slowly
just to get a taste
of my world
that has been growing
so steadily
& the progress
was made only
to energize some
fortunate folly
Oh, gee golly
I would have fled
But I was
Stuck on a
Tree &
Now I’m
As good
As
Dead
I screamed
But Nobody could
Hear me
They
Never even
Thought I could
Feel their teeth
Digging into me
So aggressively
& when I entered
the human belly
I could see they
Only knew of
Pollution
& my God-
Well my God
Only knows
How sweet I really am
