Other Eyes: Potato's Poem by Robert B. Shaw

Other Eyes: Potato's

This tuber's dark protuberance aches to be
above ground, where there's so much more to see,

but lacking claws to scrabble like a mole
its tunnel upward to an exit hole,

it gambles all on its remaining hope—
the sprout it nudges up, the periscope.
