Our Feet Poem by Marilyn Lott

Our Feet

Most of us don’t really analyze
What our feet have to go through
We just know that the things are there
Doing what we want them to do

We don’t worry and fret about them
As long as they’re working well
Until we have some problems
And the darn things begin to swell

We just trudge along each day
Walking the best way we can
Slipping our feet into slippers or shoes
Treating them like we do our hands

We buy new shoes from time to time
Hoping for a comfortable fit
But sometimes shoes hurt our feet so bad
We constantly find a reason to sit

We buckle and snap and tie our shoes
Depending on what’s now in style
When our feet would probably rather
Just be naked once in a while

The tiny little bones in a foot
Sometimes get brittle with age
But really osteoporosis is something
That can form at a younger age

“Just like swiss cheese, ” my doctor said
“You’ll have to take some pills.”
So once a week I pop one
Hoping to straighten out my ills

I guess we must try to enjoy them
Give them a massage for a treat
‘Cause they are so very important
These things we call our feet!
