Our Greatest Gift Poem by Francis Duggan

Our Greatest Gift

The praises of life everybody should sing
It is our greatest gift and does not owe us a thing
We owe it since without it we would not exist
Yet from praising it most of us seem to resist
Day will follow night when the breath of life from you and I has gone
In other people and other life forms it will live on
Humans like all other life forms are born to die
There will be plenty of others to replace you and I
That you receive from life what is only your due
Though many believe in this it is not really true
Despite what many of it has to say
Life does not reward us or punish us in any way
Talents you were born with may bring you success
But life is the greatest gift you do possess.
