Our Land Poem by Brian Hairbottle

Our Land

Rating: 5.0

Where else in the world can you find the magnificence that is Victoria Falls?
the roaring sound of the torrents of water that echo through the halls
of each individuals mind who experiences this phenomenon.
Where else in the world will you see a sunset with hues of orange and crimson?
Where else will you find an expanse of water as huge as Kariba?
Where storms blow as on the sea, or calm as glass
AND there is tiger bold as brass.

Where else in the world will you find the mighty lion still free?
roaming the wilds, not locked up and kept in captivity,
as with all the other animals
not seen standing in their majestic glory and exquisitely..
Where else in the world would you find a new neighbour?
who knows you not, but is caring enough to bring for you to savour,
a cool drink and a bite to eat as you toil and endevour
to get your house in order after the movers have gone..

Where else in the world could you go away for a rest?
and have peace of mind, knowing when you return to your nest,
all would still be as it was when you left.
Your neighbor has kept an eye on your place - there has been no theft.
I can say this with all honesty and for good measure
testify it is true, that this land we treasure
that we all knew and love for ever,
in no short measure
RHODESIA

You may be gone but certainly not forgotten.
