Out And Away Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Out And Away

Out and away

Have said and say again:
"Wish had not seen the way
That I have;
From birth to today,
Both at home and away
When packed and travelled."

Wish had died as a child…
Or, remained in village!

But did not;
No, did not.

I accept the fact that
"Is" is what "Is, " exists.

Got involved in things that
Have been far from norms
Of parents, family.

With trips, too many
Cities and countries
To observe and live with
The varied peoples, ways
Feel being a "Little Black Fish."

In times I, risked my life
For what I saw as right.

Among them taking side with
Afghan, Refugees and their kids
And the Jews, Christians, Baha'i's.

As a barred, imprisoned
Wrote, shouted, repeated:
"Help them to integrate
By giving them chance to
Learn, school, educate."

Wrote letters on that base
To Iran's government.

That I did
For them and for myself.

I wrote and in detail
Came up with examples
Of person's love for home
That defined, explained:
"Home is where the heart is."

In a way I told the government:
"Allow them prosper,
Watch joy of children
In class, until they graduate
And obtain a degree as doctor."

But ears were deaf and
Most of eyes were blind;
Complained times and times:
"You make them criminals,
If ignored, insulted! "

Governments, regardless
Of where, when
Have been, are brainless
And selfish, dumb, useless.

Do not know that crime
Comes from effort of
Peoples' need to survive.

Look at the refugees
Everywhere in the world
Syrians, Africa's
Bangladesh, Rohingyas.

Compare the ignored with
Accepted with love arms.

Rejected is a pain and danger;
Devoted is to death, the latter:
"Accepted with love arms."
So, give them love and care.
