Outside In - Poem by lesley herrera

On the outside I'm pretending
pretending to smile
pretending to laugh
choking in the thick haze
that clouds my mind
On the outside you'd never know
just by passing me
on the street
that I'm haunted
haunted by emotions
by the sickness
that suffocates me

On the inside I'm broken
unaware of how others
perceive me
worried what they think
words fly from my mouth
like a swarm of angry bees
unknowing that my tongue
cuts like a razor
leaving scars on those I love
one moment I'm flying
higher than a kite
the next I'm drowning
deep beneath the waters

On the outside I'm normal
On the inside I'm.......
