Over Oceans Poem by T.R. James Bray

Over Oceans

My wife asked me if I had ever had a broken heart,
Immediately, my thoughts traced
her smile, her hips, her neck
Was I her first?
Could I have been the first?
To love her too deeply
as she escaped from me,
for Him
her calling, she said
over oceans
in the city that never sleeps
and I was the worm in that Big Apple.
He said to her,
you will be
'a witness…of what I will show you'
I have never cried so hard,
as I did
in that cab back from the airport
the Taiwanese cab driver,
was my witness.
And He, showed me heartbreak
Zàijiàn, bǎozhòng, wǒ de àirén. (再見,保重,我的愛人)
I still remember her lips, soft cushions
That would catch me as I fell, futher
for her.
We still breathe, in and out
orphaned by all the years, between
We speak new tongues, our younger selves
would have misunderstood, neglected
Kia ora, kia tupato, e taku aroha
au revoir, prends soin de toi, mon amour
on opposite sides of the globe, polarized
over oceans
both, still full of love
and me, still writing the words
good bye, take care, my love
