Over The Rainbow Poem by rutie Beshires

people told me it is pretty
and gives hope to those without it
but no one spoke of the dark side
and how over the rainbow
there is not gold
there is not happiness
there is only sorrow
no one told me that
this new world is colorless
barren and dead
the creatures are not leprechauns
but humans with no emotion
just despair
yet no one told me that
i grew ignorent to what is really there
but so did everyone else
but they chose that
for not only were those dreams false
they were made up
by those who only have despair
because over the rainbow
is just more earth
i never knew that
untill now of course
but i wish i still did not know
because that small false hope
was the only thing keeping me
keeping us
from falling into total despair
just like over the rainbow
