Packing It In Poem by Lone Dog

Packing It In

When your weak old knees get creaky
And your skin begins to sag,
When the brown hair turns to silver
And beneath your eyes are bags,
When your back aches like the devil
And your heartbeat starts to lag,
Then, it's time to pack it in!

When your legs begin to wobble
And your steps are hesitant,
When you need to hold the railing
To support a back that's bent,
When an aid is used for hearing
And you fail to grasp what's meant,
Then, it's time to pack it in!

When senility invades you
And you blabber when you speak,
When they put you in a rest home
And help brace you when you're weak,
When the nurse supplies a potty
Or you're tied on toilet seat,
Then, it's time to pack it in!

When you can't control your bladder
And you need a rubber sheet,
When they dole out daily dinners
And you cannot chew your meat,
When a nurse tucks in your napkin
And then tells you what to eat,
Then, it's time to pack it in!

When you have to wear suspenders
And you can't undo your fly,
When your friends dropp dead like houseflies
And the hearse goes daily by,
When they dig that six foot grave hole
And then wait for you to die,
Yes, it's time to pack it in!
