Panzerkampfwagen Vi Sdkfz 181 Poem by Chris Lane

Panzerkampfwagen Vi Sdkfz 181

She purred like a cat and those
Who heard her suffered from
'Tigerphobia'.
Montgomery, himself thought it best
Not to even mention her name.

The altering terrain called for some
Quick camouflage covering.
Into the woods she came:
I sprayed her up as best I could, a
Dark green/red brown camouflage.

In an hour she purred out again.
We were children.
We wouldn't see another winter
We knew it, no more whitewashing
This old Tiger.

In July 1944, we ran out of Benzene
That is all, it was over.
But it is hard to forget her
Her purr, her roar;
My memories of a half forgotten war.
