Paradise Poem by Sally Walker

Paradise

Paradise.
The place where your mind is put at rest.
But we shall test,
That paradise is somewhere you'll make it to.
We know you're not used to that type of travel.
You only move from one depressed state…
To another.
Sad to disappointed.
Mad to guilty.
Disappointed for being ridiculous.
You shouldn't be sad,
You're stronger than that.
Guilty for being mad?
You can't be mad.
You need to learn forgiveness.
You need to be more lenient.
Stop overreacting!
It's nothing,
Really.
So we'll look at this paradise.
Give it all it's got,
Hope to be relieved of all our troubles.
In a place where:
You never overreact,
There's no reason to.
Because traveling to an island does that…?
Doesn't it?
I mean Hawaii is the island of paradise,
Of forgetting.
But what about your thoughts?
The ones that never leave.
With your over thinking brain,
and your search for a purpose.
Should you cease to exist?
In a world like this?
Even one with such a "paradise".
I mean how could you be sad on vacation?
Perhaps for the reason that traveling through the ocean,
To a happy place.
Is different.
From traveling mentally,
To a happy state of mind.
That doesn't exist for you.
