Beauty Poem by Sally Walker

Beauty

Beauty is everything.
But, is it what you see?
What's on the outside?
Is that what really matters?
Well of course!
What else is there?
Oh…
That's right…
You have a personality too.
Nothing's new,
you've heard this before.
Looks,
that's what you see.
But, what about the real me?
Blinded by my disguise-
you look into my eyes,
and see nothing…
You miss my inner beauty.
All I can ask is why?
Beauty comes from inside,
but you stand aside-
from reason.
You ignore intelligence,
you ignore humor,
and you ignore a kind heart,
only to tear it apart.
With those words you comment.
They're tart,
they're simply bitter.
But, it's only what you've been taught.
You grow up to believe that you're ugly,
that you'll never be hot.
You're not beautiful.
You'll never be good enough.
Or so society says
But,
with all these lies,
why is it that you still trust?
As if you must?
Because you're forgiving,
because you're kind,
because you're beautiful,
just the way you are.
