Park Poem by Julian Takali

Park

Its freezing cold outside but
I would sit on that bench with you
Until our lips start to crack
And our hands shiver
And our jaws quiver
Do you remember when we had nowhere to sleep?
And we huddled on the hill
And had nothing but the rugged flannel we stole from my brother
And the lighter we found with no cigarettes
Its pretty okay now because we have a car
And we can visit Califiornia
and Kansas
But we still have nowhere to go
and arent planning to start
Its eating my stomach alive
Its burning the cotton in me
And lighting the wicker
And making the sap bleed
From the tree we planted
a few years ago in the park
when we first met
next to the bench,
next to the hill,
next to the car,
and that tree will grow when we die
and the dew from it will cry
but thats just proof
that through nature, we are alive
