Parting Poem by Ruta Mohapatra

Parting

Like a stone thrown
Into the water
Creating ripples
Moving wider and wider
In concentric circles

That glance pierced her heart
Touched its core
Started a little throbbing
That slowly spread
Reaching each corner of her being

It was a mixture
Of sadness and tenderness
Of hope and despair
Of hesitation and determination
A reflection of all that he felt

She tightened her fists
To take a hold on herself
Feeling in the depth of her heart
The same emotions
That coursed through him

Then he turned and left
And she turned into stone
Their ways diverged
The distance growing longer
Fate played its part
