Penance - And - Penance
Prayer and works of mercy
are both wonderful
and necessary practices.
However, if we do
not practice self-denial
of things that
gratify the senses,
then we miss the point
when we practice
penance as a preparation
to take part in the life
of the cross of Jesus.
