This is a response to the first half of my poem Making Plans, the part the speaker himself calls THIS BOWL OF LIES, a phrase I took from one of Leonard Cohen's last songs. You rightly see this speaker as a passive- aggressive personality, lashing out at younger people who can still see the wonder and possibilities of life whereas he is bitter and angry. This man gets what he gives, that is, he cannot imagine hope so he is left in despair. You dramatize his life BEFORE his dour, bad point of view is changed by this encounter with a young woman whose hope penetrates his despair and makes him see what he has been blind to. In your poem he seems very set in his attitudes, not willing to open his mind to another viewpoint nor his heart to love.
