Perfect Child Poem by shari haka

Perfect Child

I kept my eyes shut,
so I can never see
What the world can offer
more than what you gave to me.

I kept my mouth shut,
closed to all that seemed unworthy
Utter not one slip,
only my image I would worry.

I kept my arms closed,
holding what you say I need
Pained to yearn of what I lack,
wondering when I would be freed.

I kept my ears closed,
hearing not what others say
For they know nothing of the goals,
all the dreams you want to play.
