Performance Poem by Aaron Marchant

Performance

I am the circus captive
In somebody else's show
Year after year, I stifle the tears
So the audience will not know

Two shows a day and a matinee
Each week I must perform
For they beat me 'til the fight had gone
And forced me to conform

I once bore the heart of the lion
Now I wear the smile of the clown
For I am the circus captive
And this show's never leaving town
